Facebook ads interrupt people. Google Ads reach people at the moment they are already looking for what you offer.

When someone types “best trekking company in Kathmandu”, “digital marketing consultant Nepal”, or “buy furniture online Nepal” into Google — they are not browsing. They are actively searching for a solution. Google Ads puts your business in front of them at that precise moment, on the first page of results, before they ever scroll down to organic listings.

That is the fundamental difference between Google Ads and every other form of digital advertising. It is intent-based. The person is already looking. Your job is to show up with the right message and send them to a page that converts.

I’m Bimal Raj Paudel — a Growth and Digital Strategist based in Kathmandu with 9+ years of managing Google Ads campaigns for Nepali businesses. I’ve run Search, Display, App installs campaigns Shopping, and YouTube campaigns across travel, eCommerce, service businesses, apps, and more. I know which keywords drive real business in Nepal, how to structure campaigns for maximum Quality Score, and how to make every rupee of ad spend work as hard as possible.

Let’s Talk About Google Ads

Google Ads Facebook Ads
User intent High — actively searching for a solution Low to medium — browsing, not searching
How you reach people Keywords they type into Google Interests, behaviours, and demographics
Best for Service businesses, high-intent purchases, local businesses Brand awareness, consumer products, app installs, sales
Funnel stage Bottom of funnel — ready to buy or enquire Top and middle of funnel — awareness and consideration
Typical ROAS Higher for service and high-intent categories Varies — best for eCommerce and impulse purchases
Creative requirement Strong ad copy and landing page Strong visual creative and video
Time to results Fast — results within days of launch Fast — but learning phase takes 1–2 weeks

Most businesses need both. But if you only have budget for one — and you’re a service business, a local business, or selling something people actively search for — start with Google Ads.

Google Search Ads

Text ads that appear at the top of Google search results when someone searches for specific keywords. The most direct form of Google advertising — you define the keywords, write the ads, and pay only when someone clicks. For service businesses, professional services, travel, education, and local businesses in Nepal, Search Ads consistently deliver the highest quality leads of any digital channel.

Google Display Ads

Image and banner ads shown across Google’s Display Network — millions of websites, apps, and YouTube. Display ads are excellent for brand awareness, retargeting people who have visited your website, and reaching audiences who haven’t searched for you yet but match your customer profile. Lower intent than Search, but much lower cost per impression — ideal for top-of-funnel reach.

Google Shopping Ads

Product listing ads that appear at the top of Google search results showing your product image, name, price, and store name. Essential for eCommerce businesses in Nepal selling physical products. Shopping ads capture people who are actively looking to buy — they already know what they want, and your listing appears right when they search for it.

YouTube Ads

Video ads served before, during, or alongside YouTube videos. YouTube is heavily used in Nepal — and most Nepali businesses are not running YouTube ads, which means lower competition and lower costs for early movers. Excellent for brand awareness, product demonstrations, and app install campaigns. Managed through Google Ads Manager alongside Search and Display.

Google App Campaigns (UAC)

Specifically designed to drive mobile app installs and in-app events. Universal App Campaigns automatically optimise across Search, Display, YouTube, and Google Play to find the users most likely to install and engage with your app. I’ve used UAC campaigns extensively for Nepali apps — targeting the right user segments and optimising toward post-install engagement, not just raw download numbers.

Google Performance Max

Google’s newest campaign type — a single campaign that runs across all Google channels simultaneously (Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, Maps, Discover). Uses AI to optimise budget allocation across placements. Best for businesses with clear conversion goals and enough conversion history for the algorithm to learn from. I manage Performance Max campaigns alongside traditional Search campaigns for clients who have both.

How I Structure Google Ads Campaigns for Nepal Businesses

Step 1 — Keyword Research and Competitor Analysis

I start with deep keyword research specific to how Nepali consumers search on Google. This means identifying high-intent keywords in English and Nepali, understanding search volumes and competition levels, and analysing what competitors are bidding on. I find the keywords that drive real business enquiries — not just traffic — and identify gaps where you can win at lower cost.

Step 2 — Campaign and Ad Group Architecture

Proper campaign structure is what separates a high-performing Google Ads account from a money pit. I build tightly themed ad groups — each containing closely related keywords — so that ads are highly relevant to each search. This improves Quality Score, lowers your cost per click, and ensures every rupee goes to the highest-performing segments.

Step 3 — Ad Copywriting

I write compelling search ads — headlines, descriptions, and ad extensions — that speak directly to the searcher’s intent and include a clear call to action. Strong ad copy improves click-through rate, which improves Quality Score, which lowers your cost per click. Every headline and description is written with the specific keyword and searcher intent in mind.

Step 4 — Landing Page Strategy

The most overlooked part of Google Ads in Nepal. Sending paid traffic to your homepage is one of the most common and costly mistakes. Every campaign needs a dedicated landing page that matches the ad’s promise, loads fast on mobile, and has a single clear conversion goal. I review and advise on landing page structure and conversion optimisation for every campaign I manage.

Step 5 — Conversion Tracking Setup

Before spending a single rupee, I set up full conversion tracking via Google Tag Manager — phone call tracking, form submission tracking, purchase tracking, and app install tracking where relevant. Without this, you cannot see which keywords and ads are actually generating business. With it, every optimisation decision is based on real revenue data.

Step 6 — Bid Strategy and Budget Allocation

I set up the right bidding strategy for your campaign stage and goals — manual CPC for new campaigns with limited data, Target CPA or Target ROAS for campaigns with sufficient conversion history. Budget is allocated across campaigns based on performance and business priority, with adjustments made weekly based on what the data shows.

Step 7 — Ongoing Optimisation

Google Ads accounts that are not actively managed deteriorate. I monitor campaigns weekly — adding negative keywords to block irrelevant searches, adjusting bids on high and low performers, testing new ad copy, pausing underperforming ad groups, and expanding into new keyword opportunities as they emerge. This ongoing work is what keeps cost per result low and ROAS high over time.

Step 8 — Monthly Reporting

Every month you receive a clear performance report covering spend, clicks, conversions, cost per conversion, and ROAS. I explain what the numbers mean, what changed from the previous month, and what the plan is for the next 30 days. No jargon, no vanity metrics.

Business Type Best Campaign Type Target Keywords (Examples)
Trekking and Travel Search Ads, YouTube Ads “trekking company Nepal”, “Everest base camp trek”, “Nepal tour packages”
Digital Marketing Services Search Ads “digital marketing Nepal”, “SEO expert Kathmandu”, “Facebook ads Nepal”
eCommerce Shopping Ads, Search Ads Product-specific searches, brand name + category
Mobile App App Campaigns (UAC) App category keywords, competitor app names
Real Estate Search Ads, Display “apartments for sale Kathmandu”, “property Nepal”, “land for sale Pokhara”
Education Search Ads, YouTube “digital marketing course Nepal”, “MBA Kathmandu”, “online courses Nepal”
Hospitality Search Ads, Display “hotels in Thamel”, “resorts Pokhara”, “best restaurant Kathmandu”
Professional Services Search Ads “lawyer Kathmandu”, “accountant Nepal”, “IT company Nepal”

Google Ads costs in Nepal are generally lower than global benchmarks, making it one of the most cost-efficient paid channels available to Nepali businesses. Here are typical ranges based on campaigns I’ve managed:

Metric Typical Nepal Range Notes
Cost Per Click (CPC) — Search NPR 10 – NPR 120 Competitive categories like travel and finance cost more
Cost Per Click (CPC) — Display NPR 2 – NPR 20 Much lower CPCs but lower intent than Search
Cost Per Lead (CPL) NPR 150 – NPR 1,500 Varies widely by industry and landing page quality
Cost Per App Install (CPI) NPR 40 – NPR 200 UAC campaigns optimised toward quality installs
Minimum Recommended Budget NPR 30,000/month Below this, insufficient data for meaningful optimisation

The single biggest lever on Google Ads cost is Quality Score — a measure of how relevant your keywords, ads, and landing pages are to each other. High Quality Score means lower CPCs and better ad positions. This is why campaign structure and landing page quality matter as much as bid levels.

Common Google Ads Mistakes Nepal Businesses Make

  • Targeting broad match keywords without negative keywords — you end up paying for completely irrelevant searches

  • Sending all traffic to the homepage — visitors who land on a generic page bounce immediately, wasting every click

  • No conversion tracking — spending money without knowing which keywords are generating leads or sales

  • Mixing all keywords into one ad group — low relevance lowers Quality Score and raises your CPC

  • Ignoring the Search Terms report — the actual queries people are using to trigger your ads contain invaluable data and negative keyword opportunities

  • Setting campaigns up and never touching them — without regular optimisation, performance degrades over time

  • Bidding on brand keywords without testing — sometimes valuable, sometimes wasteful, always needs data to decide

  • Not using ad extensions — site links, callouts, and call extensions significantly improve CTR at no extra cost

Frequently Asked Questions

How much should I spend on Google Ads in Nepal?

A minimum of NPR 30,000 per month is needed to generate enough click and conversion data for meaningful optimisation. For competitive categories like travel, real estate, or digital marketing services, NPR 60,000–1,50,000 per month is more appropriate. I’ll recommend a realistic starting budget after understanding your keywords, competition, and goals.

How quickly will I see results from Google Ads?

Google Search Ads can generate clicks and leads within 24–48 hours of campaign launch for high-intent keywords. Unlike Facebook, there is no learning phase delay — if someone searches your keyword and your ad is live, it shows immediately. Meaningful performance data for optimisation typically accumulates within 2–3 weeks.

Do Google Ads work for small businesses in Nepal?

Yes — in fact, Google Ads can be a significant equaliser for small businesses in Nepal. A small travel agency can appear above a large competitor on Google if their campaign structure, ad copy, and landing page are stronger. You don’t need the biggest budget — you need the best-structured campaign.

What is Quality Score and why does it matter?

Quality Score is Google’s rating of the relevance and quality of your keywords, ads, and landing pages — scored from 1 to 10. A higher Quality Score means lower cost per click and better ad positions. A campaign with a Quality Score of 8 can outrank a competitor bidding twice as much with a Quality Score of 4. Building high Quality Score is one of the core goals of how I structure every campaign.

Can I run Google Ads and SEO at the same time?

Yes — and you should. Google Ads gives you immediate visibility while SEO builds long-term organic rankings. They work together: Ads data tells you which keywords convert best, which informs your SEO content strategy. And as your organic rankings improve for certain keywords, you can reduce ad spend on those terms and redirect budget to keywords where you’re not yet ranking organically.

Do you manage both Google Ads and Facebook Ads?

Yes. Many of my clients run both channels simultaneously — Google Ads for high-intent bottom-of-funnel traffic and Facebook Ads for awareness and retargeting. Managing both through one strategist means the two channels are coordinated rather than competing, and budget is allocated based on where it generates the best return at any given time.

What happens if my Google Ads aren’t performing?

Underperforming Google Ads campaigns almost always have diagnosable problems — poor keyword match types, low Quality Score, weak ad copy, bad landing pages, or missing conversion tracking. I audit the account, identify the specific issues, and rebuild the campaign structure to fix them. Most underperforming accounts show significant improvement within 4–6 weeks of a proper rebuild.
